Hourglass!!!

Bushka who writes at autumnambles has created a new metre for writing. He calls it the hourglass because it looks like one. It’s an interesting concept indeed. I am handicapped when it comes to writing with rules, as I have admitted several times before. But the hourglass looked so beautiful that I really wanted to try my hand at it. And here is an ‘Hourglass’ that talks about how the ‘Hourglass’ came to be!

I wonder aloud what I should do next

Pick a book or send a text

Or maybe I should

Write a little

Pour

My heart out

So here I am trying

To get this ‘Hourglass’ right

Tell me now, do you really have it in sight?

                                                                                   *****

Honestly, it has been one of the toughest things to do…arranging words and meaning to look a particular way and to not compromise on what I’m trying to say. But it has been super fun creating this little piece here. I hope I get better at this though!!!

Do try writing ‘Hourglasses’…they are super fun! And definitely visit Bushka at his amazing blog…he writes the most incredible poetry…I’m sure he would be happy to have you all over 🙂

Cheers, have a super lovely day!

  1. I’m tempted also. Another most intriguing poetry form is the Haiku. Usually, but not always, the subject focuses on nature and what she’s doing. A Haiku has 17 syllables: 5 in the first line; 7 in the second: and 5 in the last. As you saw in the hourglass, finding ways to accommodate the pattern is half the fun. Both compel the writer to contemplate, meditate I think. That’s what so good about both, imho.

    1. Thank you for pausing and reading! Well, I would encourage you to try the hourglass. It is a lot of fun, partly because it has no defined rule, only the metric. Also, it is amazing that a fellow blogger came up with it! 🙂
I have read several Haiku poems, thanks to the wonderful bloggers out there…might try my hand at it too 🙂
      have a wonderful day, Cheers!

  2. Excellent, Aish! I feel honoured by your use of my form….Brilliant! Love it!
It can be even more challenging when following ‘my’ line and syllable count…
    5/4/3/2/1/1/2/3/4/5. 😉
Well Done!!! Love and Hugs! ❤

    1. Oops, sorry Bushka that I didn’t completely adhere to the metrics :-O
My next Hourglass (whenever that is) will stick to the norm, promise 😀

  3. I think you did a great job! I am just not gifted that way. I don’t think writing is really my forte. I’m an idea person, but there are so many really talented writers out there. I can put words together, but it’s not the same thing.

    1. Ah Judy I felt the same way for the longest times.. In fact I still feel not so well equipped to write these things.. They turn out to be silly and stupid most times bit I’m trying 🙂 and it is fun to try!!! Have a lovely day dear and thank you so much for visiting 🙂
