If We Were Strolling Together

If we were Strolling Together (13)

Well, hello there! I hope you haven’t forgotten me altogether.

Ugh! Silly me! If you found me here and decided to join me on this stroll today, you obviously haven’t forgotten me!!!

How can I thank you enough for holding on to my journey? How can I thank you enough for visiting me again in spite of this long break? I suppose explaining the reasons for my absence would be a good start eh?

Let’s first walk a little by the meadows today, shall we? It’s been a while since we had a dry day so we really need to capitalise on it while it lasts! Also, the striking colours of autumn make for a beautiful sight. I hate that this is a sad reminder of the barren trees we will soon see, but it’s amazing how dramatically everyday sights change in no time. And the beauty of it all brings a nice big smile to my face every time I think about it.

I grew up in the west of India, where climate and seasons are not as dramatically different as here in Scotland. Well, we have defined summers and monsoons and winters while we only get fleeting glances at spring and autumn. In fact, I was talking to J sometime ago and commented on how I found poems about spring and autumn very hard to visualise and identify with while I was growing up…and today, here I am, admiring these sights first hand…Life has been good.

Right…There are two main reasons why I haven’t written for a while.

The first of the three reasons is work! I know it is never a good enough excuse…Honestly, 3 months ago, I would’ve squeezed in the time to write. But somehow, in the past 2 months, I got sucked into work to the point that I was working even weekends! And then one day (well, last weekend) I decided to snap out of this crap and decided to not continue doing this. I have always had a life beyond the laboratory and I need to get back to it!

Time for reason two. And this is really the bigger reason anyway…Reason two is lack of inspiration. Earlier I always had something to write about. But then in the past two months, maybe because I was too consumed by science, I felt I didn’t have many things to say. I was struggling to find inspiration. Switching off from work helped with this as well….

One good thing that has happened in the past two months though is my stint with EUSci – Edinburgh University’s student run science magazine. I heard they were looking for writers and I dropped them an email. Next thing I know, I am writing for them! How awesome is that!! Yep….Now I write for their website too. And it’s exciting to talk about new discoveries and present it to an audience that doesn’t quite understand science the way scientists do. How have you been doing meanwhile?

If you were to summarise the past two months of your life in a few words, what would you say?

How do you like autumn? Is it so dramatic and beautiful where you are from?
