Tiny Tale (3)

As the flurry and frenzy surrounding the Olympics is almost fizzling out, some peace and calm is back in our lives. Those moments of fewer words and tranquil thoughts, the unruffled energy and quieter hearts! And in those tranquil thoughts, a story took birth within me and I thought it’s worth sharing.

Words

The world of Words fascinated her. She wondered what they added to what she already comprehended in entirety in their absence!

If you were asked  – Which is better? Losing your sight or losing your ability to hear/speak? What would you pick? Which of these is more important to you?

  1. I think the question should be which is the worst? and for me it will be losing sight and hearing…though losing my ability to speak is also unimaginable for me, but for introverts it is the better option..
the line about words is really good..

    1. Thanks Shreyans for your comment. I think I’d survive if I couldn’t speak or hear..but losing my sight would most definitely be a huge damage to my perception of the world and everything around me!

  2. Oh gosh! I’ve always been thankful for what I have and I say my thanks as often as I remember.. I don’t know what I’ll do if I lose any of my senses or body parts. I thought I’d like to keep my sight.. Almost immediately I wasn’t sure…?

      1. I hope you frequent this space too and that I can write stuff that interests you always! ^_^
I haven’t been writing as much as I’d like to as well. But soon there will be more of writing and lot of thinking! Cheers ^_^

  3. Another great short write, Aishwarya. I think words can add more perspectives to what we see around us. What we see around us can overwhelm us. But when we start describing a situation around us bit by bit, we can come to understand it better. Take for instance, when we are angry we might feel overwhelmed. If we slow down and start asking ourselves what’s bothering us, we might understand how we feel and what’s happening 🙂

I don’t know. I would much rather have all my five senses! 😀

    1. I agree with every word you’ve said! Many emotions are overwhelming as they seep into us but if we break down the experience into smaller bits then we tend to pay attention to details much better.
Thank you for stopping by Mabel! And yes, to have all five senses is what’s best! 😉

      1. With five senses, I feel lucky to live in the moment. Observe, and maybe then try to work out how to give back a little. The world does not revolve around us 🙂 Looking forward to your next piece of writing 🙂

    1. Oh picking one wasn’t definitely meant to hurt. But I have been thinking about which of our senses we value the most. Sure, all are valuable and there’s no doubt about it. But I got a feeling that sight is something I value a lot more. I think blind people don’t get to experience the most beautiful moments of life…deaf or dumb people miss out on a lot but at least they can envision a moment and cherish it as a memory forever! I don’t mean to demean anyone or belittle any kind of pain..but it’s a thought I’ve pondered upon! It clearly needs more work in my head.

      1. Oh Aishwarya, I didn’t mean to imply you caused pain. ! I’m sorry! I have had these thoughts as well. But I was just saying I couldn’t actually ‘write’ it down. I don’t know. I bet if I lost my hearing, I would cherish it more. If I lost my sight, I would cherish it more. (and I think I might be a little supersticious! ) 🙂

  4. That is SUCH a tough question. I’m a creative person and very visual, so losing my sight would definitely not be happy. OTOH, my father is extremely hard of hearing — and that’s extremely isolating.

I don’t really know — I suppose I would pick losing my hearing, but I definitely don’t want either to happen!

    1. Right? It’s of course a very tough choice to make. Does one sense mean more than the other to us? Clearly that’s not easy to talk about…
But to me, things mean so much more when I have a visual perception!!!

  5. Hey! Just dropping in, and yes I know I owe you an email.

As to your question, definitely hearing/speaking. You can take in so much more of the world that way.

    Anyway…

I have been on a reading and blogging spree, come check my blog out today 🙂

  6. Makes me realize how lucky I am to have them all intact in this small body.
I believe, we must be grateful to God for making us so. There are millions of impoverished and less-lucky people who are still smiling at the heavens for what they are! Why don’t we enjoy and be content with these riches that we’ve got with us? Why do we always want more of this materialistic world?
It’s more of a post rather than a comment, Aishwarya. 😀 Sorry for the long comment.
It’s just that my questions always go unanswered. Hoping to get the answer one fine day. 🙂

    1. That’s precisely the feeling in my mind too. We clearly need to be more thankful of what we have than crib about the petty issues of life!
Have a grateful day. Do say a note of thanks for the life you have…and a note of thanks to those who are a part of your beautiful life. Cheers!

    1. It’s amazing how most of us would choose to keep our sight!! It has really made me feel strongly towards how we look at our senses!
Thank you for stopping by M. Your comments are always valued!

  7. Hello Aishwarya. Thank you for sending me this story and for thinking of me. You actually wrote this post 4 days before i suddenly lost my hearing in my left ear!
Losing hearing can be isolating, and also presents many other challenges: for me these are – tinnitus, pressure in my ear, not being able to localize sounds, and finding it hard to communicate when there is any background noise. I also have sensitivity to sound, and miss listening to music. i am hoping to one day be able to enjoy music again. hopefully, the more I expose myself to sound, the more my body will get used to the elevated noise that i experience.
Anyway, it is interesting to think about having the choice, and was also interesting to see other people’s opinions. I have to agree with the majority. I can’t imagine losing my sight. I really urge everybody to enjoy their senses that they do have, and never take them for granted.

      1. It has been difficult, and still often is. But this experience has definitely made me stronger, and appreciate more things in my life – that I previously did take for granted. Wow – I’ve never been told I inspire someone – what an amazing complement. Thank you! Take care Aishwarya and have a lovely weekend x

  8. I can’t imagine to lose my sight…I want to see the beauty of nature, feel it..life would be very hard too without it…so I would rather choose to loose my hearing and speaking ability.
